Start with one connection.

Bring a person, a place, approximate years, and one question. A township, congregation, school, or employer may reveal records a surname search misses. The custodian can be outside the county.

STOP 01 / Williamsport / online

Williamsport-Washington Township Public Library history database

Search more than newspaper text.

The library’s collaboration with the Warren County Historical Society includes newspaper articles, books, artifacts, cemetery and genealogy material, photographs, audio and video.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Enter through the library history-database page; retain an item identifier for a follow-up inquiry.

A question you can ask

Can you provide the original source and provenance for this database item?

Keep in mind

Catalog descriptions and image captions can require further identification.

STOP 02 / Veedersburg / regional

Fountain County Genealogical Society Family Research Library

Check a neighboring collection for a migrating family.

Warren is among the counties covered by this regional family-research library.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Contact the society with the family and localities or arrange a visit.

A question you can ask

Does a family file connect Warren County relatives with neighboring counties?

Keep in mind

A regional scope is not a verified item-level inventory.

STOP 03 / Indianapolis / catalog research

Indiana State Library: Warren County records

Find a named record volume before planning a courthouse visit.

The guide identifies Marriage Record Book 3, 1846-1853, and supplemental marriage applications for 1882-1911.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Use the county guide to identify a title and call number, then ask library staff about consultation or copies.

A question you can ask

Which application includes the additional information missing from the license index?

Keep in mind

The guide lists publications and indexes; a title is not a promise that every original record is digitized.

Leave a trail another researcher can follow.

Save the repository, collection title, dates, volume, page or item identifier, link, and the date you consulted it. Follow an index to the original record when possible. Keep uncertain names and inferred relationships visibly separate from what the source states.

WARREN COUNTY / SELECTED RECORDS COVERAGE

Which collections cover your years?

Use these dated holdings to choose a next search. This is a selection of cataloged collections, not a complete inventory of Warren County records.

A range is a lead, not a guarantee. Bars show the dates stated by the cited catalog or inventory. They do not establish uninterrupted coverage, complete reporting or online image access. Unmarked years mean not represented in this selection, not that records were destroyed. Indexes and abstracts still need to be followed to the underlying record.

Sources reviewed October 26, 2026. Blue shows cataloged holdings; rust identifies indexes or compiled publications where the source specifies them. Read the format label and access notes for each row.

Official catalog descriptions checked October 25, 2026. These notes identify research routes, not completed name-level searches.

Theophilus Stembel’s Rainsville patient accounts

An IHS name list covers July through December 1842 in a physician’s account book. The introduction describes broader Rainsville accounts through March 1847, followed by Oak Grove, Benton County entries.

How to begin: Search the PDF and note the original page number, then ask IHS about BV2243 and the full account entry.

What remains uncertain: The online list covers only the opening thirteen pages. It indexes account names, with limited treatment detail, and is not a complete patient or population register.
