Bullitt County:
Follow a school, a family folder or a local quarterly.

Use museum photo albums, Wilderness Road indexes and library subject files to investigate Bullitt County families beyond routine searches.

Sources checked October 26, 2026. Based on public institutional descriptions and collection catalogs; no staff confirmation or onsite inspection. Confirm access before visiting.

Start with one connection.

Bring a person, a place, approximate years, and one question. A township, congregation, school, or employer may reveal records a surname search misses. The custodian can be outside the county.

Check the county for your research year.

A place may have belonged to a parent county before this county existed.

BULLITT COUNTY / RECORDS BEFORE SEARCH RESULTS

Which records cover your years?

Compare your research years with these KDLA inventory entries. Bars represent listed holdings, not verified completeness or online availability. Unmarked years mean not listed here, not proof that records were destroyed.

Check the volume before ordering. Inventory endpoints do not mark the beginning or end of all county recordkeeping. Ask about indexes, missing volumes, access conditions and other custodians.

Marriage records

Listed dates: 1797–1911.

Ask for the register entry and any associated license, bond or return.

Deed books

Listed dates: 1797–2015.

Locate the grantor and grantee indexes first; preserve the book and page reference.

Will books

Listed dates: 1803–2015.

Ask separately about estate settlements, administrations, guardianships and loose papers.

County order books

Listed dates: 1797–1998.

Request the relevant volume and index, then follow references to related proceedings.

Early birth records

Listed dates: 1852–1859, 1874, 1878–1879, 1893–1894, 1903–1904, 1906–1907, 1909–1910.

These interrupted runs require year-specific checking. Do not assume complete registration.

Death records

Listed dates: 1852–1859, 1874, 1878, 1893–1894, 1903–1904, 1906–1907, 1909–1910, 1911–1967.

The 1911–1967 run includes KDLA statewide certificate holdings. Confirm the correct custodian for later records.

Tax assessment books

Microfilm (blue): 1797–1827, 1830–1835, 1837–1842, 1844–1847, 1850–1851, 1859–1875, 1879–1884, 1886–1892.

Ask KDLA for the named county, taxpayer and exact year, and whether the item is microfilm or an original. An absent name alone does not prove death or migration.

Access: start with KDLA’s record-request forms . Select the appropriate series and provide county, name, date and any book/page citation. Confirm current fees and restrictions. These links lead to request instructions, not a promise of free online images.

STOP 01 / Shepherdsville / online

Bullitt County History Museum and Genealogical Society

Follow the index to the article or photograph.

The museum website includes named photograph albums and online Wilderness Road quarterly name and page indexes. Its contents directory also organizes cemetery, school, court and local-history material.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Start with the Contents page. The museum research room at 300 South Buckman Street lists free weekday access, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; Saturday visits require an appointment at 502-921-0161.

A question you can ask

Does the quarterly entry lead to an original document, and is there related material in the research room?

Keep in mind

Online articles, transcriptions and donated material have different evidentiary value. Record the contributor and original reference when supplied.

STOP 02 / Central Library / Lebanon Junction

Bullitt County Public Library: local history and family files

Search by a community subject as well as a surname.

Patron-contributed family files are concentrated at Central Library, with a smaller set at Lebanon Junction. Central also holds subject files of clippings, pamphlets and maps; its equipment includes microfilm reading and an overhead document scanner.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Use the genealogy page’s Family Files and subject-index links, then submit a focused research request. Confirm the branch and access arrangements for the specific file.

A question you can ask

Could you check both the family folder and the church, school or community subject file?

Keep in mind

A contributed family account may contain uncited conclusions. Ask to retain the folder label, author and source notes with any copy.

Leave a trail another researcher can follow.

Save the repository, collection title, dates, volume, page or item identifier, link, and the date you consulted it. Follow an index to the original record when possible. Keep uncertain names and inferred relationships visibly separate from what the source states.
