PLAN YOUR RESEARCH ROUTE

Match the stops to the repository

Several stops can lead to the same repository. Maps show selected verified locations, not every guide stop or every community represented in the records. Use each stop’s access instructions, including for online and out-of-county collections. Check access before traveling.

Other guide stops not shown on this map

These stops may be online collections, shared repositories or locations not yet confirmed for mapping. Follow the collection’s access instructions.

Map sources and limits

County outlines: U.S. Census Bureau 2024 cartographic boundaries . Selected major roads: 2024 TIGER/Line primary and secondary roads . Public repository addresses checked against the sources above, with approximate Census geocoder positions. Unmatched addresses and out-of-county repositories are listed in the key rather than assigned a guessed position. Markers identify contact locations, not collection coverage. Historical boundaries, township lines and current traffic conditions are not shown. Prepared November 4, 2026.

Start with one connection.

Bring a person, a place, approximate years, and one question. A township, congregation, school, or employer may reveal records a surname search misses. The custodian can be outside the county.

STOP 01 / Warsaw

Kosciusko County Historical Society Genealogy Research Library

Ask about township, school and guardianship books.

The Old Jail Museum library describes court, guardianship, estate, school, township, tax and marriage-application records, plus obituary files, G.A.R. records and indexed photographs.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Contact librarian@kosciuskohistory.com with the series, township and dates. Confirm research access and copy permissions before visiting.

A question you can ask

Do school or guardianship books survive for this township and period?

Keep in mind

The collection description does not establish a complete run of every series. Photographs and Boice films have separate copying permissions.

STOP 02 / Warsaw

Warsaw Community Public Library Indiana Room

Follow a news event across changing newspaper titles.

Family and vital indexes, cemetery books, atlases, directories and school annuals. Newspaper holdings include the Northern Indianian, 1856–1919, Warsaw Daily Times, 1882–1949, and Times Union from 1950.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Research is self-directed; Adult Services helps locate materials. Check the detailed microfilm table for the exact title and date.

A question you can ask

Which newspaper title and reel cover this month, and is there a directory for the same period?

Keep in mind

Some titles have separated date ranges. Do not interpret a title’s overall span as continuous issue coverage.

STOP 03 / Indianapolis and online

Indiana State Library county research guide

Use a record title and call number to move beyond a surname search.

Printed circuit-court compilations include 1836–1843, 1857–1861, 1863–1865 and 1865–1869, with distinct call numbers in the guide.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Open the county guide, follow its catalog and records links, and ask the library about the exact volume before visiting.

A question you can ask

Which court compilation covers the dispute, and where can I obtain the original case?

Keep in mind

These are selected published holdings, not a complete inventory of original records.

STOP 04 / North Webster Community Public Library

Tippecanoe Township pocket enumerations

The library provides a searchable pocket-enumeration database labeled 1920–1930.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Use Search on the database menu; compare the result with the sample form and ask the library about original records.

A question you can ask

Which item covers my person, place and year, and how can I consult the underlying record?

Keep in mind

Township-specific, not countywide. The span does not establish complete annual survival. Historical administrative categories require careful interpretation.

STOP 05 / North Webster Community Public Library

Township tax assessments with names and property

Mainly Tippecanoe Township, with a few other townships, from 1900 into the 1950s. Entries include owner names/addresses, taxable items and totals.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Use the separate people and business/organization searches on the library’s free legacy database.

A question you can ask

Which item covers my person, place and year, and how can I consult the underlying record?

Keep in mind

Not every year is included. Confirm township and exact year in each result; no exact final year is published.

STOP 06 / North Webster Community Public Library

North Webster and Troy yearbooks

The legacy library index lists annual volumes 1948–1999. The current site separately lists 1969–1997 and 1999.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Start with the current genealogy page or browse the older year-by-year index. Later files are large PDFs. Ask staff when a file is unavailable.

A question you can ask

Which item covers my person, place and year, and how can I consult the underlying record?

Keep in mind

Current and legacy listings differ, including 1998. Current page says research tools are for in-library use, so do not promise remote access to every file.

STOP 07 / Kosciusko County Historical Society

Ralph Boice films of local people and events

Late 1930s through the 1960s: people, buildings and activities in Warsaw, Leesburg, Mentone, Silver Lake and nearby places.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Ask the Old Jail Museum about viewing a relevant town or event. Personal-use copies may be available for a small fee and with permission.

A question you can ask

Which item covers my person, place and year, and how can I consult the underlying record?

Keep in mind

Broad collection span, not yearly coverage or a name index. Do not identify people solely from appearance.

Leave a trail another researcher can follow.

Save the repository, collection title, dates, volume, page or item identifier, link, and the date you consulted it. Follow an index to the original record when possible. Keep uncertain names and inferred relationships visibly separate from what the source states.

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY / SELECTED RECORDS COVERAGE

Which collections cover your years?

Use these dated holdings to choose a next search. This is a selection of cataloged collections, not a complete inventory of Kosciusko County records.

A range is a lead, not a guarantee. Bars show the dates stated by the cited catalog or inventory. They do not establish uninterrupted coverage, complete reporting or online image access. Unmarked years mean not represented in this selection, not that records were destroyed. Indexes and abstracts still need to be followed to the underlying record.

Sources reviewed October 26, 2026. Blue shows cataloged holdings; rust identifies indexes or compiled publications where the source specifies them. Read the format label and access notes for each row.

Confirm the historical jurisdiction as well as the date. A record may be held outside today’s county, and an inventory’s ending year does not mean recordkeeping stopped.

Additional collection references

Official catalog descriptions checked October 25, 2026. These notes identify research routes, not completed name-level searches.

Robert Smith’s Palestine account book, 1851–1852

IHS publishes the customer-name index from Robert Smith’s account book, SC2664. The authors locate the business in Palestine, Kosciusko County, using the collection guide and comparison with census entries.

How to begin: Search the published name list, then request the relevant customer account from IHS using SC2664. The original ledger contains transactions beyond the name index.

What remains uncertain: A store account suggests a business connection, not necessarily residence or kinship. Several Indiana places were named Palestine; retain the authors’ geographic explanation and verify the individual against other records.
