PLAN YOUR RESEARCH ROUTE

Match the stops to the repository

Map sources and limits

County outlines: U.S. Census Bureau 2024 cartographic boundaries . Selected major roads: 2024 TIGER/Line primary and secondary roads . Public repository addresses checked against the sources above, with approximate Census geocoder positions. Unmatched addresses and out-of-county repositories are listed in the key rather than assigned a guessed position. Markers identify contact locations, not collection coverage. Historical boundaries, township lines and current traffic conditions are not shown. Prepared November 3, 2026.

Sources checked October 23, 2026. Based on public institutional descriptions, not staff confirmation or an onsite visit. Confirm current access before traveling.

Bring one focused question.

Start with a name or place, approximate years, and the fact you want to establish. These are selected research starting points. A catalog, index, museum exhibit and original record provide different kinds of evidence.

STOP 01 / NEWSPAPERS / CORONER MICROFILM

Upper Sandusky Community Library Heritage Room

A library stop with court and inquest evidence alongside newspapers.

What you can find

The Heritage Room lists local newspapers from 1845 forward, plus census, church, court, marriage, birth, death and coroner-inquest microfilm. Two readers have printers.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Consult materials in the library. For an obituary request, obtain the form at the desk or email roomhe@seolibraries.org; the page lists a paid search process.

A question you can ask

Which inquest film or newspaper issue covers this death and date?

Keep in mind

Confirm precise dates and current fees. Local compilations and Ancestry Library Edition are for in-library use; collection spans may contain gaps.

STOP 02 / PUBLIC ASSISTANCE / COUNTY GOVERNMENT

BGSU Center for Archival Collections: Wyandot records

Explore relief records that may explain difficult household circumstances.

What you can find

The inventory includes mothers’ pensions for 1915-1936, blind-relief records for 1904-1936, county-home journals, indigent soldiers’ burials, and probate and coroner series.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Record the series title and reel number from the inventory, then contact the Center for Archival Collections to arrange access in Bowling Green.

A question you can ask

Can I consult this relief or county-home series for the named person and period?

Keep in mind

These are selected series with different date ranges and formats. Confirm restrictions, copying and access before traveling.

STOP 03 / MARRIAGES / ESTATES / EARLY VITALS

Wyandot County Probate Court genealogy requests

Request the complete marriage record rather than a date alone.

What you can find

The court lists births and deaths for 1867-1908, marriages from 1845 forward, and other probate proceedings from 1845 forward. Its complete marriage copy includes application, issuance and marriage information.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Follow the court’s written-request instructions. Include contact details, a self-addressed stamped envelope and the confirmed fee.

A question you can ask

Please provide the complete marriage entry or identify the estate file for this person.

Keep in mind

The court directs later vital-record requests to the health department. Confirm current fees and whether a particular proceeding is publicly accessible.

STOP 04 / SCHOOLS / PHOTOGRAPHS / COMMUNITY HISTORY

Mohawk Historical Society Museum

Look beyond the county seat to Sycamore and nearby communities.

What you can find

The museum describes photographs, postcards, business artifacts, yearbooks, Mohawk school history, military material and a genealogy library relating to Sycamore, Melmore and McCutchenville.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Contact mhsmuseum@syctelco.com or 419-927-2969. The museum at 101 North Sycamore Avenue, Sycamore, lists Saturday hours and appointments.

A question you can ask

Do you have a yearbook, photograph or local business item connected with this family?

Keep in mind

Ask about the relevant collection before visiting. An exhibit or genealogy library does not guarantee a named family file or complete records.

STOP 05 / MATERIAL CULTURE / TRAVEL HISTORY

Wyandot County Historical Society museums

Place local households in the setting of a stagecoach inn and county museum.

What you can find

The society operates the county museum and Overland Inn; the county chamber describes military exhibits and the furnished 1829 stagecoach inn.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Check the society’s current seasonal schedule or arrange an appointment. The county museum is at 130 South Seventh Street, Upper Sandusky.

A question you can ask

What documented objects or local sources connect this family to the inn, community or military exhibit?

Keep in mind

Museum interpretation is contextual evidence. No comprehensive surname archive or inn guest register was established by the public descriptions.

STOP 06 / TRIBAL HISTORY / FAMILY RESEARCH

Wyandotte Nation Cultural Center and Museum

Include the Nation’s own historical perspective in a Wyandot research plan.

What you can find

The Nation welcomes family research in its cultural-center library and provides a transcription of Peter Dooyentate Clarke’s 1870 history.

Research details & a question to ask

How to begin

Use the Nation’s official cultural-center page to contact staff about the question and access. This repository is in Oklahoma, not Wyandot County, Ohio.

A question you can ask

Which Nation-published sources or library materials address this Ohio-era family or community connection?

Keep in mind

County residence or a surname does not establish tribal citizenship or ancestry. Ask the Nation about appropriate evidence and distinguish historical research from enrollment.

Keep the evidence and the next step.

Save the repository, collection title, dates, box or volume and page, link, and what you searched. Follow an index entry to the full record. Keep uncertain identifications separate from established relationships.

WYANDOT COUNTY / SELECTED RECORDS COVERAGE

Which collections cover your years?

Use these dated holdings to choose a next search. This is a selection of cataloged collections, not a complete inventory of Wyandot County records.

A range is a lead, not a guarantee. Bars show the dates stated by the cited catalog or inventory. They do not establish uninterrupted coverage, complete reporting or online image access. Unmarked years mean not represented in this selection, not that records were destroyed. Indexes and abstracts still need to be followed to the underlying record.

Sources reviewed October 26, 2026. Blue shows cataloged holdings; rust identifies indexes or compiled publications where the source specifies them. Read the format label and access notes for each row.

COMMUNITY MEMORY

Community history groups and research leads

Local communities can help identify a place, photograph or possible source. These independently run groups are community leads, not catalogued archives or BWP partners. Keep the contributor, date, basis for an identification and original source together. Ask permission before republishing photographs or private contributions.

Facebook identities and visible access information checked October 25, 2026. Verification here concerns the group, not the accuracy of its members’ posts. No groups were joined and no messages were sent.

Book a research appointment and request the named microfilm series. Repository is in Wood County.

Evidence limit: These are distinct series; do not bridge the commissioners journal gap or assume the death record covers every register year.

Examiners minutes cover 1873–1887; school treasurers reports 1846–1859 (reel 116). Mothers pensions cover 1915–1936 and soldiers relief 1887–1900 (reel 120).

How to access it

Evidence limit: No individual church or coroner series dates are published. Newspaper start date does not prove a continuous run.

Mohawk schools and small-community collections

Yearbooks, Mohawk Local School history, athletic objects, photographs, postcards and business artifacts cover Sycamore, McCutchenville, Melmore and nearby communities. A genealogy library supports local inquiries.

How to access it

Free; Saturday 10–1 or appointment. Ask staff about the school, business or family before visiting.

Evidence limit: No yearbook dates or complete student-register series verified. Melmore is in neighboring Seneca County.
