Selected repository locations for present-day orientation. Numbers match the research stops below. Select a marker to open its stop. Locations are approximate, not entrances or driving directions. Grouped numbers identify nearby repositories; use the address key for individual locations.
Several stops can lead to the same repository. Maps show selected verified locations, not every guide stop or every community represented in the records. Use each stop’s access instructions, including for online and out-of-county collections. Check access before traveling.
Stop 1: Charlotte Community Library, Michigan Room 226 S Bostwick, Charlotte, MI 48813
Use the Local History page to enter the library's digital repository. The library recommends a desktop computer for the embedded repository's tools. Physical Michigan Room materials are available for research inside the library and do not circulate. Identify the school year, newspaper date or cemetery before asking staff about holdings.
Stop 2: Grand Ledge Area District Library 131 E Jefferson St, Grand Ledge, MI 48837
Follow Search Our Digital Archives from the library's Local History page to search, download and print material. Ask the library at 517-627-7014 or questions@gladl.org about a missing issue or unclear photograph identification.
Stop 3: Delta Township District Library and Delta Township Historical Society 5130 Davenport Dr, Lansing, MI 48917
Browse the library's public Omeka site by collection or exhibit, or use its keyword and advanced item search. Follow individual item descriptions to capture the creator, date and source when supplied. Contact the library about unidentified people or additional material.
County outlines: U.S. Census Bureau 2024 cartographic boundaries ↗. Selected major roads: 2024 TIGER/Line primary and secondary roads ↗. Public repository addresses checked against the sources above, with approximate Census geocoder positions. Unmatched addresses and out-of-county repositories are listed in the key rather than assigned a guessed position. Markers identify contact locations, not collection coverage. Historical boundaries, township lines and current traffic conditions are not shown. Prepared November 3, 2026.
Collection and access sources reviewed October 31, 2026. These are selected research routes, not complete county holdings or completed name-level searches.
RESEARCH STOP 01
Charlotte school, cemetery and newspaper collections
Collection details
The Michigan Room concentrates on the library, Charlotte and nearby communities, with more limited Eaton County and Michigan coverage. The library lists local newspapers beginning in the late 1800s, Charlotte High School yearbooks beginning in the early 1900s, local cemetery records and a compilation of obituaries from Charlotte newspapers.
What to confirm
The library explicitly describes both physical and digital collections as works in progress that may be incomplete. Its summary does not identify exact first dates, title-by-title newspaper runs or cemetery transcript coverage.
RESEARCH STOP 02
Grand Ledge newspapers, school years and community photographs
Collection details
The current Local History page lists the Grand Ledge Independent, 1874-2023; newspaper birth, death and marriage indexes, 1874-2010; high school yearbooks from the 1900s into the 2020s; Grand Ledge Chair Company catalogs; scrapbooks and photographs. These can connect a resident's school life, employment and community appearances.
What to confirm
Ranges are collection summaries, not guarantees of complete runs. The page gives conflicting descriptions of the Ernst Floeter photographs: almost 15,000 images dated 1964-1986, but another paragraph extends displayed material from the early 1960s to 2007. Verify each image's metadata rather than imposing one date span.
RESEARCH STOP 03
Delta Township neighborhood and school images
Collection details
Their joint local-history site presents photographs and documents organized into browsable items, collections and exhibits. A specifically identified example is Delta Mills School Painting, described as the school being painted in 1880, with the former Congregational Church in the background. The Delta Mills exhibit and Old Maid Swamp collection offer further place-based starting points.
What to confirm
The site says sources and content are noted when known. It does not establish a comprehensive township archive or a continuous school-record series. Treat captions and identifications as evidence to evaluate, and avoid inferring pupil attendance from a school-building photograph.
RESEARCH STOP 04
A 1933 population snapshot by township and ward
Collection details
The inventory lists Michigan 1933 Eaton County census card files by township, Charlotte ward and Grand Ledge.
What to confirm
This is a specific 1933 holding, not a federal census or proof that every resident appears.
RESEARCH STOP 05
Delta Township assessment rolls with explicit gaps
Collection details
The inventory lists Delta Township assessment rolls for 1925, 1931–1935 and 1937–1944 in Vault 3.
What to confirm
Do not bridge the unlisted 1926–1930 or 1936 years. Assessment entries concern taxable property, not every household.
RESEARCH STOP 06
Eaton Rapids church proceedings
Collection details
The inventory lists scanned Eaton Rapids Baptist Church proceedings for 1890–1892, under Computer/EatonRapids.1.
What to confirm
A computer location means a local digital holding, not an openly downloadable website file or complete church membership register.
Prepare one focused request
Give the repository the locality, year, collection and specific question. Ask about the relevant volume or folder, gaps, access restrictions and copying costs. Save the citation and record what you searched, including searches with no result.
Use these dated holdings to choose a next search. This is a selection of cataloged collections, not a complete inventory of Eaton County records.
A range is a lead, not a guarantee. Bars show the dates stated by the cited catalog or inventory. They do not establish uninterrupted coverage, complete reporting or online image access. Unmarked years mean not represented in this selection, not that records were destroyed. Indexes and abstracts still need to be followed to the underlying record.
Sources reviewed November 1, 2026. Blue shows cataloged holdings; rust identifies indexes or compiled publications where the source specifies them. Read the format label and access notes for each row.

Collection inventory or finding aid
Michigan 1933 Eaton County census
Listed years: 1933.
Source, access and coverage limits
Ask volunteers to retrieve the relevant Room 2 card drawers. Call ahead; other-hour appointments need at least 72 hours’ notice.
Keep in mind: Card drawers by locality; not proof all residents included.
Confirm the historical jurisdiction as well as the date. A record may be held outside today’s county, and an inventory’s ending year does not mean recordkeeping stopped.
