Selected repository locations for present-day orientation. Numbers match the research stops below. Select a marker to open its stop. Locations are approximate, not entrances or driving directions. Grouped numbers identify nearby repositories; use the address key for individual locations.
Several stops can lead to the same repository. Maps show selected verified locations, not every guide stop or every community represented in the records. Use each stop’s access instructions, including for online and out-of-county collections. Check access before traveling.

County outlines: U.S. Census Bureau 2024 cartographic boundaries ↗. Selected major roads: 2024 TIGER/Line primary and secondary roads ↗. Public repository addresses checked against the sources above, with approximate Census geocoder positions. Unmatched addresses and out-of-county repositories are listed in the key rather than assigned a guessed position. Markers identify contact locations, not collection coverage. Historical boundaries, township lines and current traffic conditions are not shown. Prepared November 1, 2026.
Collection and access sources reviewed 2026-11-01. These are selected research routes, not complete county holdings or completed name-level searches.
RESEARCH STOP 01
Anuta Research Center cemetery and newspaper pointers
Collection details
The historical society publishes Riverside Cemetery indexes, county cemetery locations and a Menominee County Journal obituary list, alongside books, photographs and archival records.
What to confirm
Indexes are finding tools and can contain transcription errors. Retrieve the underlying burial or newspaper record. The online page does not establish complete archival series or dates.
RESEARCH STOP 02
Newspaper runs and regional obituary indexes
Collection details
Digitized newspaper links cover selected issues in 1885–1899 and 1908–1926. Robert G. Shaw indexes organize obituary and funeral notices across 1871–2017, including nearby Marinette and Peshtigo.
What to confirm
The two newspaper intervals leave a gap; neither is a promise of every issue. Shaw indexes select notices from several communities. Match the publication, date and page before using a notice.
RESEARCH STOP 03
Translate a historical address using 1953 street conversions
Collection details
Street and house-number conversion tables help connect older addresses to modern Menominee streets. Separate links cover Main/First, Ludington/Fifth, Broadway/Thirteenth and other renamed roads.
What to confirm
This is a city address crosswalk, not countywide land ownership evidence. Check the original table and reconcile the parcel with deeds or maps before assigning a modern address.
RESEARCH STOP 04
County Journal obituary references and free retrieval help
Collection details
The library hosts an alphabetical County Journal obituary index with birth/death fields, newspaper dates and page references. Entries extend through 2023; the library offers obituary lookups for both local and distant researchers.
What to confirm
The index is a derivative source, not an obituary image or a complete death register. Do not infer a start year or continuous coverage from the earliest individual entry.
Prepare one focused request
Give the repository the locality, year, collection and specific question. Ask about the relevant volume or folder, gaps, access restrictions and copying costs. Save the citation and record what you searched, including searches with no result.
Use these dated holdings to choose a next search. This is a selection of cataloged collections, not a complete inventory of Menominee County records.
A range is a lead, not a guarantee. Bars show the dates stated by the cited catalog or inventory. They do not establish uninterrupted coverage, complete reporting or online image access. Unmarked years mean not represented in this selection, not that records were destroyed. Indexes and abstracts still need to be followed to the underlying record.
Sources reviewed November 1, 2026. Blue shows cataloged holdings; rust identifies indexes or compiled publications where the source specifies them. Read the format label and access notes for each row.

Search the linked indexes online, then ask staff@spiespubliclibrary.org for help obtaining the cited article or directory. The library is at 940 First Street, Menominee.
Keep in mind: This is a city address crosswalk, not countywide land ownership evidence. Check the original table and reconcile the parcel with deeds or maps before assigning a modern address.
Confirm the historical jurisdiction as well as the date. A record may be held outside today’s county, and an inventory’s ending year does not mean recordkeeping stopped.
