Selected repository locations for present-day orientation. Numbers match the research stops below. Select a marker to open its stop. Locations are approximate, not entrances or driving directions. Grouped numbers identify nearby repositories; use the address key for individual locations.
Several stops can lead to the same repository. Maps show selected verified locations, not every guide stop or every community represented in the records. Use each stop’s access instructions, including for online and out-of-county collections. Check access before traveling.

County outlines: U.S. Census Bureau 2024 cartographic boundaries ↗. Selected major roads: 2024 TIGER/Line primary and secondary roads ↗. Public repository addresses checked against the sources above, with approximate Census geocoder positions. Unmatched addresses and out-of-county repositories are listed in the key rather than assigned a guessed position. Markers identify contact locations, not collection coverage. Historical boundaries, township lines and current traffic conditions are not shown. Prepared November 1, 2026.
Collection and access sources reviewed 2026-11-01. These are selected research routes, not complete county holdings or completed name-level searches.
RESEARCH STOP 01
Grand Lake lighthouse logs and community papers
Collection details
The 2019 inventory identifies lighthouse logs for 1872–1887, 1893–1897 and 1905, plus chapel records, family histories, maps and architectural drawings. Accession H2019-006 is a useful request reference.
What to confirm
Inventory acquisition years are not document dates. The listed lighthouse intervals have gaps, and the inventory does not establish which station appears in every volume.
RESEARCH STOP 02
Onaway pupils, steering-wheel industry and local newspapers
Collection details
Onaway yearbooks are available on DVD for 1956–2020. Earlier binders cover 1912, 1914, 1916, 1920–1925, 1929 and 1943–1945. Steering Wheel booklets document local industry and community life.
What to confirm
Confirm individual school and volume availability. A collection span does not guarantee every pupil appears or that all volumes are searchable online.
RESEARCH STOP 03
Rogers City photographs and county museum collections
Collection details
The museum preserves documents and photographs as well as artifacts. Rogers City Remembered shares historical images and clippings, which can supply names, buildings or events to pursue in the underlying collection.
What to confirm
Social-media captions are leads to verify. A shared image does not establish unrestricted reuse or a complete indexed archive.
RESEARCH STOP 04
Sailors, lighthouse keepers and maritime memorabilia
Collection details
The museum preserves shipping artifacts and personal maritime stories, including uniforms and navigational equipment. It is a useful place to ask whether a named sailor or vessel is represented.
What to confirm
This is a memorabilia and interpretation route, not a verified complete personnel or passenger archive. Dates for individual collections are not published.
RESEARCH STOP 05
Forty Mile Point engineering, personnel and selected logs
Collection details
The library’s Forty Mile Point index lists construction documents, personnel material, deeds and selected log years: 1951–1955 and 1962–1967. This is an off-county route to the Rogers Township lighthouse.
What to confirm
The listed logs have a 1956–1961 gap. Personnel is a catalog category, not a promise that every keeper has an individual file.
Prepare one focused request
Give the repository the locality, year, collection and specific question. Ask about the relevant volume or folder, gaps, access restrictions and copying costs. Save the citation and record what you searched, including searches with no result.
Use these dated holdings to choose a next search. This is a selection of cataloged collections, not a complete inventory of Presque Isle County records.
A range is a lead, not a guarantee. Bars show the dates stated by the cited catalog or inventory. They do not establish uninterrupted coverage, complete reporting or online image access. Unmarked years mean not represented in this selection, not that records were destroyed. Indexes and abstracts still need to be followed to the underlying record.
Sources reviewed November 1, 2026. Blue shows cataloged holdings; rust identifies indexes or compiled publications where the source specifies them. Read the format label and access notes for each row.

Confirm the historical jurisdiction as well as the date. A record may be held outside today’s county, and an inventory’s ending year does not mean recordkeeping stopped.
