Selected repository locations for present-day orientation. Numbers match the research stops below. Select a marker to open its stop. Locations are approximate, not entrances or driving directions. Grouped numbers identify nearby repositories; use the address key for individual locations.
Several stops can lead to the same repository. Maps show selected verified locations, not every guide stop or every community represented in the records. Use each stop’s access instructions, including for online and out-of-county collections. Check access before traveling.
Stop 1, Stop 2, Stop 3: Cadillac Wexford Public Library 411 South Lake Street, Cadillac, MI 49601
Ask library staff for access to the genealogy back room and the specific edition.
Stop 4: Wexford County Historical Society Museum 127 Beech Street, Cadillac, MI 49601
Use the online gallery first. Contact the museum before an in-person research visit, especially outside its advertised summer and autumn opening season.
Stop 5: Wexford Genealogy Organization 601 Chestnut Street, Suite B, Cadillac, MI 49601
Visit the resource room or email a copy request. The society publishes modest lookup donation charges; confirm the current charge and delivery method. Thursday research hours are listed, with alternate appointments by email.
County outlines: U.S. Census Bureau 2024 cartographic boundaries ↗. Selected major roads: 2024 TIGER/Line primary and secondary roads ↗. Public repository addresses checked against the sources above, with approximate Census geocoder positions. Unmatched addresses and out-of-county repositories are listed in the key rather than assigned a guessed position. Markers identify contact locations, not collection coverage. Historical boundaries, township lines and current traffic conditions are not shown. Prepared November 3, 2026.
Collection and access sources reviewed 2026-11-01. These are selected research routes, not complete county holdings or completed name-level searches.
RESEARCH STOP 01
Back-room directories and school yearbooks
Collection details
Ask for Cadillac High School Logs, listed for 1913–2016 with some years missing, and Cadillac city directories. The inventory names individual directory editions rather than promising annual coverage. Wexford-Missaukee directories begin with 1999 and have explicit edition gaps.
What to confirm
A yearbook range does not mean every year survives. Use the published edition list for directory research.
RESEARCH STOP 02
Plat atlases and death-index leads
Collection details
The genealogy inventory lists Wexford atlases for 1889, 1908 and 1914, plus death indexes for 1868–1909 and 1909–1929. Use the atlas editions to compare ownership and the indexes to locate entries for further record requests.
What to confirm
An index is not the original death record. Atlas years are separate editions; cemetery transcription update dates are not burial coverage dates.
RESEARCH STOP 03
Manton and Tustin newspaper images
Collection details
Manton Tribune (1880–1963) and Tustin Times (1896–1905) are available digitally on library computers. These small-town papers can reveal school news, business activity and neighborhood notices missed by a larger-city search. Cadillac News holdings begin in 1973.
What to confirm
Digital access is described as in-library, not unrestricted remote access. Title spans do not guarantee complete issues.
RESEARCH STOP 04
Historic map images at the museum
Collection details
The museum provides a gallery of historic maps photographed for online inspection. Larger maps may be split across multiple images; inspect and zoom the separate photographs to follow roads and place names.
What to confirm
The gallery does not supply a uniform date inventory. Do not infer map dates or ownership coverage from appearance alone.
RESEARCH STOP 05
Original probate books and volunteer-created indexes
Collection details
WGO holds original Wexford County probate books, 1901–1957, with a volunteer-created electronic name index. Its separate obituary index points to copies held in the resource room. Search the index, then inspect or request the actual pages.
What to confirm
The probate index is a finding tool, not a substitute for the books. The obituary collection is incomplete and still being expanded.
Prepare one focused request
Give the repository the locality, year, collection and specific question. Ask about the relevant volume or folder, gaps, access restrictions and copying costs. Save the citation and record what you searched, including searches with no result.
Use these dated holdings to choose a next search. This is a selection of cataloged collections, not a complete inventory of Wexford County records.
A range is a lead, not a guarantee. Bars show the dates stated by the cited catalog or inventory. They do not establish uninterrupted coverage, complete reporting or online image access. Unmarked years mean not represented in this selection, not that records were destroyed. Indexes and abstracts still need to be followed to the underlying record.
Sources reviewed November 1, 2026. Blue shows cataloged holdings; rust identifies indexes or compiled publications where the source specifies them. Read the format label and access notes for each row.

Collection inventory or finding aid
Cadillac High School Logs
Listed years: 1913–2016.
Source, access and coverage limits
Ask staff for back-room access.
Keep in mind: Some years missing, not identified by inventory.
Confirm the historical jurisdiction as well as the date. A record may be held outside today’s county, and an inventory’s ending year does not mean recordkeeping stopped.
