Selected repository locations for present-day orientation. Numbers match the research stops below. Select a marker to open its stop. Locations are approximate, not entrances or driving directions. Grouped numbers identify nearby repositories; use the address key for individual locations.
Several stops can lead to the same repository. Maps show selected verified locations, not every guide stop or every community represented in the records. Use each stop’s access instructions, including for online and out-of-county collections. Check access before traveling.

County outlines: U.S. Census Bureau 2024 cartographic boundaries ↗. Selected major roads: 2024 TIGER/Line primary and secondary roads ↗. Public repository addresses checked against the sources above, with approximate Census geocoder positions. Unmatched addresses and out-of-county repositories are listed in the key rather than assigned a guessed position. Markers identify contact locations, not collection coverage. Historical boundaries, township lines and current traffic conditions are not shown. Prepared November 1, 2026.

RESEARCH STOP 01
Michigan Room family histories and local research help
Collection details
Noncirculating local and family histories for Roscommon and surrounding communities. Published family histories can provide names and source leads.
What to confirm
No collection-wide date range is published. A family history is a compiled source, not proof of every relationship.
RESEARCH STOP 02
Oral histories and the Richardson Schoolhouse
Collection details
Recorded recollections of longtime residents and local-history exhibits in the Gallimore Boarding House, Richardson Schoolhouse and Silsby-Jacobson building.
What to confirm
Oral recollections require corroboration. YouTube automatic transcripts can misread names; transcript preparation remains in progress. Schoolhouse preservation does not establish survival of pupil registers.
RESEARCH STOP 03
Family-history reference papers and microform
Collection details
The research center describes family histories, reference papers, books, periodicals and microfilm or microfiche, with computers for genealogical databases.
What to confirm
The society reports its lease ends December 2, 2026 and winter closures or reduced hours. Do not treat advertised regular hours as year-round availability. No comprehensive dated inventory was verified.
RESEARCH STOP 04
School censuses, log-labor liens and poor-board minutes
Collection details
RG 63-15 includes school censuses for 1884–1889 and 1902–1906, statements of labor liens on logs for 1881–1900, and Poor Board minutes for 1879–1914.
What to confirm
The school-census gap is real in the published description. Series spans do not establish a surviving record for every person or year.
Prepare one focused request
Give the repository the locality, year, collection and specific question. Ask about the relevant volume or folder, gaps, access restrictions and copying costs. Save the citation and record what you searched, including searches with no result.
Use these dated holdings to choose a next search. This is a selection of cataloged collections, not a complete inventory of Roscommon County records.
A range is a lead, not a guarantee. Bars show the dates stated by the cited catalog or inventory. They do not establish uninterrupted coverage, complete reporting or online image access. Unmarked years mean not represented in this selection, not that records were destroyed. Indexes and abstracts still need to be followed to the underlying record.
Sources reviewed November 1, 2026. Blue shows cataloged holdings; rust identifies indexes or compiled publications where the source specifies them. Read the format label and access notes for each row.

Collection inventory or finding aid
School census, RG 63-15
Listed years: 1884–1889, 1902–1906.
Source, access and coverage limits
Ask Archives of Michigan about the specific series and record group before an onsite or copy request. These records are held in Lansing.
Keep in mind: Separate spans; 1890–1901 not included in listed holdings.
Confirm the historical jurisdiction as well as the date. A record may be held outside today’s county, and an inventory’s ending year does not mean recordkeeping stopped.
